Promo-Steem Revival

Steem inflation, ideally, should be used to onboard new users, that in exchange would increase awareness/price of Steem. I see a lot of big whales looking for things to curate. I urge them to not only look inward but also outward. Both are needed.

We can use the diehards we have here on Steem, upvote them for bringing new Steem users in, or spreading awareness which has the same indirect outcome of onboarding.

This is my whale call, please, look at the #promo-steem tag & “introduceyourself” tags, let's put Steem in the hands of new users, but also the Steemians currently bringing in value for us.

Example: I want to run a Hong Kong contest next. People write about Hong Kong and share on Twitter and tell people to share their stories, immutably, on the Steem blockchain.

This type of marketing just makes sense, and we are not too mighty to go after the long hanging fruits of marketing. We have a badass product, we have a means to incentive onboarding, what in the hell are we waiting for?

Whatever the hot topic of the week is, Steemians should be all over it with correctly tagged content and sharing on outside socials; it’s the bread and butter of going viral!

I believe it is up to us large stakeholders to guide content creators in the right direction for the overall ecosystem. SMTs will mostly be what rewards OG content creators, Steem will mostly be used to onboard new users & to continue to decentralize our DPOS governance.

Content creators here just lack a little direction, I see them trying their best, but we can push the rewards to content that helps make Steem go viral, and it'll happen. Just check the “YANGGANG” tag here, before 3 days ago there was 4 post, and one wasn't even about Yang.

I am pro Steem reward pool inflation because I have a dream, a dream to onboard the masses. I am also aware it is time to put up or shut up.

But, when I see shit like this, it shows me that we are not making great use of the inflation. This person took a year off Steem, just to login and see nothing that is trending on the outside world is trending on Steem. And, this user will probably log on in another year, if Steem is lucky, and what will he find then? scott.png

I am just one whale, but with support, we can really make some change! I am looking to powerup more into my Dan account to double my onboarding efforts.

OCDB is in on the effort, YooDoo crew is up for it, Threespeak is up for it, who else wants to help coordinate an effort to shoot Steem to the moon?

Blueprint: Create relative content to trending topics that benefit both parties involved. IE: “YANGGANG” helps Andrew Yang because he is being censored, and he wants to join a platform like Steem if you listen to him talk. This also helps Steem, as it is a trojan horse way to advertise. We are supporting Yang while simultaneously driving people to front ends like Steemit, Steempeak.

Same with what’s going on in Hong Kong, they are being censored, we can make content about Hong Kong, people who have stories/info to share who are in HK. We are helping spread the word about HK while getting exposure from outside socials to Steem front ends & the incredible use case of the Steem blockchain.

^ Content creators, when making relevant content, always use the most relevant tag first, and add promo-steem as the last tag. Example: Put “yanggang” tag first, then any other relevant tags, like “letyangspeak” – and very last put #promo-steem – so we can locate your work more easily.

I will support quality onboarding initiates tagged with #promo-steem tag. Reach out anytime if you have any ideas for an onboarding contest, initiative or plan. Cheers!

Exactly right. Accelerating onboarding is key. The entire value proposition of Steem rests on it.

  • @phortun

I love the idea of the Steem blockchain becoming the (un)official news platform for people from countries where mainstream servers get censored. Sounds like an awesome concept. I wish I had that in my mind when I was in Cuba...

  • @josediccus

I think it's something we've should've been on for a long time, sometimes I sit and wonder what will really make whales and everyone alike to see the need for onboarding. It's something we really shouldn't take lightly. I hope people with experience on how This can be done rightly should step up.

  • @manoldonchev

Just a random association I made with something I started soon. Maybe I did not start it in an intelligent enough way to drive people to the tag but I don't know if and where I can tag in Pinterest:

I think I need to get smarter about it and share more.

  • @rehan12

It's really humble of you to come forward and make some changes with all the efforts and tbh if many more comes forward then a change is imminent.

While many are loosing hope due to various factors (price, low support on quality contents, DV Trails and so on) but yeah long term users will sure find out a way to keep on and those new users at th least should get some taste of what they are actually missing and even if they get a slight push that will be enough for them to keep on going and bring others along with them.

Looking forward to the initiative !!

  • @steemindian

I am really grateful for your support for the #steemindia-steemcontest. I have been pitching this to many others and only you instantly came forward.

Yes, as yoodoo or catred content creates contests and encourage writers to write about different projects outside of the steem..same need to be done with Steem.

I know people like @clixmoney @nathanmars who heavily use their time to promote steem outside and encourage others to do by voting their work shown the way to promote steem.

Generally when I want to know what's trending in world either I go to Facebook or Twitter , we need to made steem works more relevant and up to date as people like me don't have to check other things.

Hope your call heard by people and we all come together in this situation to raise the steem.

  • @ammonite

I have seen many alternative media providers join up to Steem only to not get the traction they deserve and now many have gone. There are still some around and posting away with some success. It is getting quite difficult to monetise their content due to censorship on other platforms and I still believe Steem could be their saving grace. Supporting them more as a community would really help bring their followers here where they can talk and comment in a free environment. For me personally I am all for onboarding my own community to Steem but with my small stake it is a big risk to bring them all here to only have upvotes from me ( at the start anyway) Maybe when SMTs arrive thing can change but I really think I only have one shot at enticing them away from Facebook and it still doesn't feel like the right time. The lack of direct messages within Steem makes it a very restrictive social media.

Dan, love what you are doing ! I’m working on something to bring thousands to communities . A work in progress and we’ll see where it goes . I like where all this going keep it up !

I’ve been gagging to make a new quality STEEM advert/promo video for a while now but that thing called work and family keep getting in the damn way (haha)

I’ve got ideas; I just need local performers, some spare time and motivation.

I really want to see STEEM do well, so I’ll make an effort on this! Nice revamp of the #promo-steem tag 😎

I am just one whale, but with support, we can really make some change!

It's great to see a whale that really cares about the users and the platform itself, @theycallmedan.

OCDB is in on the effort, YooDoo crew is up for it, Threespeak is up for it, who else wants to help coordinate an effort to shoot Steem to the moon?

I'm totally IN! But I don't know exactly how to do it here in my country because besides most Brazilians not believing in Steemit's proposal, those still still around here represent a very small amount.

However, any other initiative that comes up (like this one from the Hong Kong Writing contest) and I understand that I can help, I will.

Plus, about #YangGang wave... The result has been great so far and I'm thinking of writing an upcoming post, but this time, focusing on a more specific aspect of his campaign. Is that okay if I write another one?

  • @sumit1998

That’s an great effort ideally it will help us creators like Me who has to promote there post before HF21 to get some attention

  • @cryptosearch

You make awesome steem universe with best discussion news it will make steem awesome.

  • @fitinfun

    Hi @theycallmedan,

Here are some Steemians currently bringing in value for us who really need help. @pifc promotes new bloggers here week after week and helps many. This is a place the people you onboard can get support in the early days of being here.

If you and your whale friends could vote this post it would really help:

And if you can support the weekly initiatives at @pifc, this would be even more help. They only have a few posts a week and you can see how much good comes out of this effort. If you or anyone you know are looking to help little people with autovotes this is a great place.

If instead, you prefer to handpick great posts to support, you can spend hours here each week and find many.

Thank you very much for considering @pifc.

  • @gangstalking

On STEEM, EOS or BITSHARES? have crypto? Human Trafficking Included

Self proclaimed community watchdogs are actually hacking and stalking people.

This group is ran by They are hacking people that enter this discord server . Once you are hacked they profile you long enough to know all of your activities. They introduce workplace gangstalking visits and bring it to your attention cleverly and discretely so only you get it. They are very covert and tricky with everything they say and do in this server. Some claim to have worked for or are working with the FBI and the NSA. Mixed with decommissioned traders and coding criminals, Its a scary mix of creepy people and their intent is to drive you crazy and deplete everything you have ever acquired in life, even your freedom.

My hacking started with them introducing ransomware that has options, dump my coin or delete my system drive. They acknowledged this to me in the server as it happened. I've been following this group since before it was on discord. I joined when it was on teamspeak.

This hacking and stalking is done so they can manipulate the target to pump and dump for them. Threatening and Making victims wear head phones, so nobody in your household can hear thier dramatization towards you. In 2017 this server was side marked as a drama show for entertainment purposes only as an excuse to say whatever they want all the way down to killing a politician. They have a server side command called "hey asshole" making a prompt come up instructing everyone to wear headphones. They want everyone wearing headphones so nobody in your vicinity can hear them mess with you. Fystikken says its because of "mic feedback" but once your a target you get exactly why they make everyone wear headphones.

With headphones on they subliminally direct victims with very low suggestive whispers mixed into their radio shows music. Combine this with them being able to manipulate their own individual outputs sound volume, which they control on the server side, they can pick what individual people hear at any given time. They decide who you hear on the server and change the volume controls for them. They can make some really low or off for those trying to investigate. They control who hears what and know who is who.

This team will find absolutely everything they can about you prior to using their suggestive and threatening program. They Introduce pictures that mean something only to the target, inducing paranoia while they watch and listen thru all of your circumvented devices. They are very aware of what makes you tick. They know your work schedule and use it for work stalking along side of this. I received multiple threatening letters to my work and home addressed to my screen name from this group.

Fyrstikken tells people they are drafted like they did with Facebook at the beginning. He says Facebook was started by forced labor and V2K controlled slaves, just like he creates with his gang for steem and crypto. "Get to work bitch" he tells people once circumvented and intimidated.

Human trafficking is worse than drugs.

  • @hiroyamagishi

Great effort dan, we need to duplicate people like you

  • @paragism

    nice idea

  • @shepz1

The problem with steemit is timing and greed, the same people always voting for the same people for years. Nothing has changed, nor will it until there is a limit to how many times you can vote for the same author per day or week. You only have to look at who makes the most money per post per day, to see who is on whose "auto vote list". Or make a random decay to rewards with no set timing for the best time to vote (scrap the 5 minute rule) Just my 1 cents worth of thoughts.

If anyone is guaranteed to make good money on a post, most people will automatically based on return, auto-vote that person.

Then new people may stay here instead of only being here for a few weeks then leaving. (due to no returns)

Another problem is the mindset of the very people you are appealing to, as I have lost count of the amount of times I have seen those in the long standing "clique" state user retention is not important, and to that end, good luck changing their minds.

  • @isnochys

I advise the people of Hong Kong to NOT post anything here! Because this will be immutable. And they WILL find you!

  • @sacrosanct

I will work on it. Will prepare my task-force for promo-steem and will give you the details how I think this should be done and how effective it will be. But the promotion always needs finance, although in my way it will require less, but we can reallyy drive people to steem and they may find it better than others. But how sustainable it will be to retain them for the next 2/3 years organically is a big & challenging task.

  • @thecryptodrive

Hey Dan, thanks for your support of the @sbdpotato project! On another note I’m interested to know where you stand on the proposal to reduce the staking period to 4 weeks?

  • @chireerocks

@theycallmedan, In my opinion this post is a booster and in my opinion every result is combination of big and small steps and when people come together to push something forward, with continuous efforts they can.

I really want to appreciate you and other mentioned whales who are part of this boosting initiative and definitely we have to put effort and with that hold patience because this space is beautiful but volatile too, and attracting outsiders will take time but continuous efforts will bring the Mass Adoption.

Keep pushing this Ecosystem towards positive destination brother. Stay blessed.

I think this is a huge gap and you have actually highlighted one of the things I see as a challenge on Steemit and in the social media: people don't know how to use tags (myself included most of the time) and if they do, which tags work on this platform, and which outside and which are universal.

This brings me to my next point: The transition from the mainstream social media to Steemit is not easy and is not intuitive. It's hard work, so IMO, much needs to be done to streamline those processes. Especially, also IMO, as there is little incentive - with the level of Steem and Alexa ratings - in joining the platform. Oh, and there's the added confusion of tribes....and SMTs.

Whatever strategy you embark on, I think, needs to bear these challenges in mind.

  • @shharafat

It is good for us.All whales now waiting for good content. So, quality content will get good curation by whale. Some people use it for marketing like as a promo content. I will try to take your advice #promo-steem tag.

  • @crisking

  • @reyvaj

Why the whales of Stemit are not investing in publicity?

  • @paulag

I am doing my bit too.

I can't wait for the summit to be aired to see the response. Maybe you would consider tweeting a link to the summit page for me.? it's not a blockchain or crypto summit but we are expecting 15K registrations. Im going to be trying to convince some of the other presenters to set up an excel community here on steem with me. its a massively popular topic and forums and communities in the field are very activity.

  • @build-it

Your energy towards STEEM is a topnotch! At we've been hard at work in ensuring we spread the word outside STEEM via DIY ( do it yourself) and How-to tutorial contents. The figures we got from our Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook Insight is outrageous and the numbers keep growing everyday.

Thank you @theycallmedan for revamping the promo-steem prodigy!

  • @tolukeys

The idea is top notch, nice innovation.

  • @kingscrown

    nice ideas here

  • @buggedout

I want to run a Hong Kong contest next. People write about Hong Kong and share on Twitter and tell people to share their stories, immutably, on the Steem blockchain.

This is a great idea. We really should be targeting those who are (or are in danger of being) censored. At the risk of being controversial there is great potential to put STEEM in the spotlight.

  • @flaws

Man, this is really amazing! (and at the right time, at least for me)

I'm finishing structuring a form of advertising for Steem here in my state (most likely, in all my country) using chess, I'm a national player and my coach is an international referee (organizes official chess tournaments nationally and internationally). We plan to hold chess tournaments in which we can promote Steem and show people the reach and benefits of this great community, even appearing on well-known pages like the fide.

I'm not so well known in the community because I've never been active, but it's been 1 week since I started being around here I really want to do this and I know I'll need support for it, what do you think? Do you have | I plan to make a much longer post and explain everything and each of the things that will be done, but it would be cool to hear the opinions of the community first :)

Thank you so much for this! I read this post at the right time

  • @bescouted

I have an existing photography platform and we have integrated steem rewards on it. I solehandedly onboarded more than a hundred new steemians, quality content creators on the platform.

I have an idea with an smt that would have real utility could potentially onboard tens if not hundreds of thousands new steemians, but i am totally bootstraped and am seeking a partner to work with.

Please let me know if you'd be interested to talk about it on discord or via a call whichever is more convenient to you.

  • @meryemjayoud

U are making steem awesome 👏

  • @crypto7878

To be honest, I'm not aware about Mr. yang until you start competition to write about him. I had read whole Twitter and search on Google then I'm able to write something about the people I never heard about. Because in India I'm not aware about American candidate. All thanks to your efforts and competition. I can able to know about him. In future also look forward to take participate in your interesting competition as well. Have good time. Regards, Parth

Please read my this post: I have made summary about all tags:

  • @tngflx

Why giving away steem to dao is way profitable nowadays?

  • @starkerz

great to see whales supporting the #promo-steem initiative / tag

  • @steevc

I gave this a small vote, but most of my votes will go to smaller account. There is plenty of good content making cents whilst orcas are guaranteed dollars in auto votes. Spread the goodness!

I am highlighting people on #FollowFriday and giving automatic votes via @tenkminnows to people who need a boost.

  • @jekhy

    Thanks for the post.
